Windham Wolverines Football and Cheer Concussion Prevention and Awareness Resources
The Windham Wolverines endorses and complies with all safety policies and procedures of the NHYFSC and AYF to ensure the well being of young athletes. As such, the Wolverines organization “Continues to insist on proper instruction by competent coaches and most important, in a culture of good sportsmanship.” Further, “We understand that safety is the first priority when it comes to your child's participation. From background checks and concussion awareness, to coaches education and training, we take pride in our safety-first risk management, which provides the most professional and safe environment for your child to play.”

All AYF/AYC Coaches are required to pass the Concussion Test at www.CDC.Gov (Center of Disease Control). The CDC’s HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports course is a free, online course available to coaches, parents, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion. It features interviews with leading experts, dynamic graphics and interactive and exercises to help you recognize a concussion and know how to respond if you think that your athlete might have a concussion. The course and related useful information for parents is available at http://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html.
Sports Related Concussion and ImPACT: Evaluations that involve neurocognitive testing in athletes is at the forefront of concussion management. Such evaluations can help to objectively evaluate the athlete’s post-injury condition and track recovery for safe return to play, thus preventing the cumulative effects of concussion or returning an athlete to play too soon before fully recovery has occurred.
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a computer-based testing program specifically designed for the management of sports-related concussions. Many local resources exist that offer ImPACT Testing. However, because not all tests are created exactly alike, the Wolverines organization does not endorse one particular health care facility over the other for ImPACT Testing. We also believe that choosing to have an ImPACT evaluation is a medical decision that is best discussed with your pediatric heath care team who can make recommendations for your child.
Thus, we encourage parents to consult with their own healthcare providers to discuss available options.
For more information, please see https://www.impacttest.com/ . To find a health care provider offering ImPACT testing, click on the “Find a Care Provider” button on the website and type in state and zip code.
